Farmers: the faithful

Tonight when it started raining I had to go outside to sit in my swing to hear it rain. It was just at supper that John was telling me how critical it was that the pumpkins needed rain. I told him I would pray. So when the rain started it literally was like music to our ears.

While outside I was thinking about how full of faith farmers have to be. So much time and money is put into a crop before you even have a crop. Fertilizer and gas prices have soared. And of course the cost of labor. All of this before the first seed sprouts.

The real gamble is the uncontrollable weather. Who knows if the seeds will get the right balance of sunshine and rain? Who knows if hail or heavy winds will destroy the plants? Who knows if bugs will infest, deer will eat, disease will strike?? So many uncontrollable factors...yet, farmers still sow.

And with faith, they will reap.
