Saddam and Osama

I'm compelled to make a couple of comments about this wonderful time I am living in history.

With the news of Osama's death I keep thinking about one similarity (in my opinion) of these two men and their resulting deaths. Although they were both, obviously, powerful, influential leaders...in their deaths they were, simply put, COWARDS.

Think about it: Saddam was holed up, looking like a bum, alone in some hole under a small house out in no where. In the end, this martyr wasn't acting very much...like a martyr. He didn't go out boldly. His pompous, powerful attitude was reduced to hiding like a coward.

On the other hand, while so many analysts assumed Osama was toughing it, like a soldier, out in some cave with such bravery and all...he was living in a mansion, with his "youngest" wife, just yards from the protection of the Pakistan army. And then what strikes me most are the reports that he used a WOMAN as his human shield. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not surprised that he would offer up a woman's life but this is such a COWARDLY act. Did he think that the Navy Seals wouldn't shoot her or that perhaps the bullet wouldn't make it through her to him. Either way, it's not exactly what I expected a man whose followers seem to be so willing to -die for their God-.

In retrospect, I am glad that we took Saddam alive. I find it most fitting that we turned him over to his own people for justice. A justice that resulted in his death...and I don't mean a gentle death from a deadly injection that quietly put him asleep. It was a justice where his own people hung him and video'd it for You Tube.

Likewise, I am impressed with the justice of swooping into Pakistan, yards from their military and carrying out this single operation on Osama. I think it sends the message we need sent.

Having said all of this, I still feel that this is a time we REALLY need to pray for our country and our leaders. We are under attack continuously to some degree. We must be mindful of that today and in the future.

may God bless America
